OPEN DOORS - ARISE AFRICA
Millions of Christians face violent persecution for their faith in sub-Saharan Africa. Every two hours, a Christian is killed for their faith, and the rising violence is driven largely by Islamist extremists taking advantage of political instability in the region.
"Millions of Christians are displaced here in Nigeria," says Pastor Barnabas, who lives in an internally displaced people's camp in northern Nigeria with his family. He was forced to flee after Islamist militants killed his brother and sister-in-law and badly injured him.
The region is facing a severe displacement crisis, with millions forced to flee their homes and many losing their means of livelihood as Islamist militants – particularly in Nigeria – seize their land.
And yet the world has not noticed.
HOW ARISE AFRICA HELPS
The African church is calling on its brothers and sisters around the world to help stop the violence and start the healing by joining them in the Arise Africa (Nouse Afrikka) campaign. The campaign aims to ensure that the global community acknowledges and acts against extreme violence, and supports the church to persevere – to be resilient, resourceful and influential.
Arise Africa is a global campaign run by Open Doors, raising awareness, financial support, advocacy and prayer for Christians facing violent persecution in sub-Saharan Africa. It works by raising funds for local Open Doors partners, uniting believers in prayer across the world, and encouraging media to report on violence against Christians.
